Internal Medicine

Originally from Sulphur, LA, Dr. Holden received his undergraduate education at McNeese State in Lake Charles, then went on to LSU’s medical school in New Orleans. After he graduated from residency training in the LSU Internal Medicine Residency program in Baton Rouge, he wanted a change from that area. Friends living in Jacksonville encouraged him to move here, and he began working for Dr. Carriere at Family Care Partners. With a mother and two sisters who are Registered Nurses and an older brother who is a physician, medicine is a big part of Dr. Holden’s family. A big believer in proper nutrition, weight and cardiovascular training, Dr. Holden wishes he could spend more time with patients to cover those subjects. “But I rely on our excellent dietitions here for that,” he says.

Dr. Holden also has an interest in alternative medicine. He relies both on clinical research studies and his own personal experience to formulate an opinion on the subject. “Some acupuncture has been shown in studies to work. In fact, I go to an acupuncturist for my allergies. I also go to a chiropractor. My approach to medicine is holistic. There’s a lot of healing given through touch, even if it’s just to show that you care about a patient.”

When he’s not at the practice, Dr. Holden is an avid photographer and water skier. “I shoot black & white photography with film, and color with digital,” he says. His favorite subjects are landscapes and informal, candid portraits. Dr. Holden has also experimented with digital infrared photography, and has taken photos of friends surfing at Eleuthera, one of the “out islands” in the Bahamas.
