Join FCP in support of the 26.2 with Donna

Family Care Partners is proud to be supporting the 26.2 with Donna in 2012.  This marathon is a Boston marathon qualifier whose proceeds go to helping women right here in the Jacksonville area who are struggling with breast cancer, and research!  FCP is raising money any way we can, with raffles, a dress down day, and a bake sale.  We have even joined Mayo clinic in selling beautiful hot pink shoelaces for $5 a pair all in support of the 26.2 marathon.

FCP will also be running one of the water stands during the race.  Our Spirit of Care committee has given a generous donation to be able to be a sponsor in the race.

It is very important that we invest in breast cancer research in hopes to one day win the fight.  We are  gaining more and more success everyday.  The 26.2 marathon is also going “green”, asking people to bring reusable water bottle, or to purchase racing pouches to try to cut down on paper waste.

The marathon will be held on February 12, 2012.  Visit http://www.breastcancermarathon.com/ to see how you can participate and help out the cause!!

Sweet Tea: The Devil’s Brew

Limiting the amount of your sugar intake, will address two of Top 5 New Year Resolutions: Get Fit, and Lose Weight.

Unfortunately, we live in the South, and Sweet Tea is one of our most prized comfort drinks, along with BBQ ribs or pulled pork.

However, sweet tea is a Devil’s Brew, and a glass can contain about 22-percent sugar. That’s TWICE the sugar in a can of your favorite cola. Combine this with unlimited free refills at almost all restaurants, and you have enough sugar to make Willy Wonka blush.

Drinking sweet tea stimulates your body to create insulin like crazy. The added caffeine then signals your body to create adrenaline. Combined, your body is confused. And rather than feeling satisfied from one glass, we cheerfully accept the next free-refill. Sweet Tea is the Southern crack-cocaine.

So try and limit your intake of Sweet Tea, or do what I do, and ask for half-n-half, and you’ll at least cut your sugar intake in half.

2. Get Fit
3. Lose Weight

5. Quit Smoking
