At Family Care Partners, we understand that times are hard right now. We are living with an economy that is making it hard to make ends meets. It can be very difficult to eat and buy healthy foods for your family, when it seems much easier to eat things that are bad for you. We have some nutritional tips for eating healthier on a budget.
Cook at home whenever possible. When you cook from scratch you have more control over what is going into your meals. Home cooking is less expensive than restaurant meals or convenience food.
Buy in Bulk. If you can find things on sale that can store well, you can save by purchasing in larger quantities.
Make extra. If you have some yummy leftovers in the fridge waiting for you, maybe the urge to stop on the way home for something bad will decrease.
Use leftovers creatively. Try using your leftovers to make a completely different dish, it won’t seem like you’re eating the same thing over again.
Buy Generic when possible. We all know it tastes the same.
Buy less expensive cuts of meat. Use the slow cooker to make tougher cuts just as yummy as the more high priced cuts of meat.
Prepare meatless meals occasionally. Who says we have to eat meat every meal? There are many alternatives, and these meals are usually always budget friendly.

Family Care Partners, one of the largest group of skilled family physicians in Jacksonville, wants to make people aware of potential dangers in the coming months. October hosts National Fire Prevention Week and we should all make sure that we are practicing fire safety. With the holidays right around the corner with the candles, Christmas trees and lights we all need to be cautious. Here are a few tips to keep your families safe this year….
Install and maintain a working smoke alarm outside of every sleep area and remember to change the battery at least once a year.
Designate two escape routes from each bedroom and practice them regularly.
Teach everyone the “Stop, Drop, and Roll” technique in case clothing catches on fire.
Avoid storing old mattresses in the home or garage.
Teach kids that matches, lighters and candles are tools, not toys. If you suspect that a child is playing with fire, check under beds and in closets for telltale signs like burned matches. Matches and lighters should be stored in a secure drawer or cabinet.
